On March 1, 2016, the new Consul of the Consulate General of People’s Republic of China in Montreal, Mr. Jingtao Peng, and the Education Consul, Mr. Sheng Xiong, visited the Confucius Institute in Quebec (CIQ). The conversation was friendly and the welcome warm.

Mr. Peng brought news of the political, cultural and economic situation in China but also, importantly, affirmed the support of the Consulate General for the activities assumed by the Confucius Institute in Quebec.

Mr. Filion, in turn, introduced Mr. Peng to the education system in Quebec and reinforced the commitment of Dawson College, as a collaborator with the Confucius institution in Quebec, to the popularization of Chinese culture in Canada.

The parties ended their first meeting with a discussion of pedagogical strategies that could be applied to popularize Chinese culture among Quebec students and reiterated their hope for fruitful collaboration.
