From October 7 to 9, 2023, the Quebec Confucius Institute and the Quebec Chess Association successfully hosted the 6th “Confucius Institute Cup” Chess Open. Jiang Wei presided over the event, with speeches from Li Yongkang and Du Ming of the Chinese Consulate General in Montreal, and other distinguished guests. Chess enthusiasts from North America participated, featuring interactive chess robot demonstrations. Representatives from the World Chess Federation, the Chinese Chess Association, and Beijing Normal University highlighted the importance of promoting chess and enhancing cultural exchange. The tournament included young players and experienced masters, showcasing chess’s strong foundation and international influence as a traditional Chinese cultural and modern competitive sport, promoting unity within the chess community and its growth in the Western world.
