On January 14, 2026, Associate Director Xia Tian of the Confucius Institute in Quebec returned to the Maison des Jeunes youth center in Verchères, continuing a well-received Chinese New Year program from the previous year with new content.

Participants explored Chinese characters through the French-language learning book Les Caractères Chinois : quand les images sont devenues des mots, selecting favorite characters and learning their origins and brush-writing techniques. A character-matching card game further enhanced engagement, and the session concluded with writing the character “Fu” while learning the cultural meaning behind displaying it upside down. The three-hour program brought together returning and new participants. At the end, Xia Tian presented a calligraphy piece reading “Miaomiao House” to the center as a symbol of lasting friendship and cultural exchange.
