Celebrating the Lantern Festival and the Chinese New Year: Teachers and Students Gather in Joy

On March 1, 2026, Montreal JiaHua School and the Confucius Institute in Quebec jointly held their annual Lantern Festival Gala to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Students, teachers, and community members gathered to mark the first full moon of the Year of the Horse.

Representatives from the Consulate General of China in Montreal attended the event and delivered remarks, recognizing the two institutions’ efforts in promoting Chinese language education. They also announced that the 2026 “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for primary and secondary school students, along with International Chinese Language Day activities, will be held in the region.

Rong Meng, Director of the Confucius Institute in Quebec and Principal of JiaHua School, thanked the teaching team for their dedication and highlighted several new initiatives over the past year, including the establishment of the JiaHua Scholarship, the creation of the Huayin Chinese Orchestra, and monthly HSK testing now offered at the Confucius Institute, the region’s only HSK test center.

The gala featured a variety of performances, including songs, dance, martial arts, and traditional Chinese music, along with interactive games and prize draws that brought lively participation from the audience. The event showcased the richness of Chinese culture while strengthening connections among students, educators, and the local community.
