Intermediate Level 1

Level 1A: 240 hours of previous instruction or equivalent knowledge
Level 1B: 270 hours of previous instruction or equivalent knowledge
Course description:
Students will become more comfortable in oral expression, and achieve a higher level of writing abilities. They will acquire an understanding of more complex concepts in listening and reading comprehension, and will be able to develop simple texts. Students will feel confident expressing their ideas and feelings, exchanging their views and discussing aspects of culture and life in China and in Canada.

Elementary Level 4

Course duration:
30 hours
Prerequisites:
Level 4A: 180 hours of previous instruction or equivalent knowledge
Level 4B: 210 hours of previous instruction or equivalent knowledge
Course description:
Students will develop their fluency and accuracy in oral expression, as well as increase their understanding of reading comprehension and the main grammar rules. Students will become familiar with more complex sentences and paragraphs. In addition to discussions of various topics and simulations of real-life situations, students will be given more exercises emphasizing the correct use of syntax and grammar rules.

Elementary Level 3

Course duration:
30 hours
Prerequisites:
Level 3A: 120 hours of previous instruction or equivalent knowledge
Level 3B: 150 hours of previous instruction or equivalent knowledge
Course description:
Students will develop grammatical accuracy in expression and further their understanding of general concepts in listening and reading comprehension. Students will become familiar with the differences between simple and continuous aspects, and will acquire intermediate knowledge of how to express themselves in the present, past, future. There will be vocabulary building exercises and discussions on everyday topics, as well as more complex speaking activities.

Elementary Level 2

Course duration:
30 hours
Prerequisites:
Level 2A: 60 hours of previous instruction or equivalent knowledge
Level 2B: 90 hours of previous instruction or equivalent knowledge
Course description:
Students will acquire a fundamental knowledge of the rules of the language and continue to learn more words of locations, directions as well as the modal verbs. Class time will include conversation and listening comprehension activities. Students will practice concepts such as prepositions, adjectives, different questions, the comparative form and polite requests.

Elementary Level 1

Level 1B: 30 hours of previous instruction or equivalent knowledge
Course description:
Students will develop basic language skills, particularly in oral comprehension and expression. Course content includes grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation at an elementary level. This includes the Chinese phonetic alphabet, numbers, greetings, making an acquaintance and inquiry, the verbs “to be” and “to have”, questions and negative forms.
